Aces 1 v Cardiff Met Archers

Aces division 2 team got their season underway against the travelling Cardiff Met Archers.

Aces 1 came into their first game of the season with a depleted squad due to player injury and availability, but the squad pulled together and battled hard. The game got underway with Cardiff winning the tip and converting from their first effort at basket before Aces quickly returned with 2 points of their own.

The first quarter came to an end with Cardiff taking a 7-point lead into the second quarter. Aces continued to work hard but struggled to keep the Cardiff side out of the paint and unfortunately for the home side, Cardiff quite often took advantage of the opportunities given to them. Offensively, Aces continued to create opportunities but not consistently enough or with a conversion rate that would allow them to close the gap on Cardiff.

Halftime score, 42-59.

The third quarter was much of the same, with Aces still struggling to restrict Cardiff’s shooting opportunities enough to allow them to close the gap. The fourth quarter was a much closer affair with Aces finally game finally starting to come together. Aces won the fourth and final quarter by a single basket, 14-12.

The first game of the season proved to be a challenge for several different reasons, but we congratulate Cardiff Met Archers on a hard-fought win and look forward to the away fixture.
